Earlier in 1897,the secretary of state in India refused the petition to give official recognition to the term ‘Anglo Indian’, later Lord Curzon also rejected the request. This term came into vogue in 1911 when the viceroy Lord Hardinge sanctioned the use of ‘Anglo Indian’ to describe the community in the census that year.
